Emory University, Department of Religion Assistant Professor in Islam The Department of Religion invites applications for a full-time tenure track position in the study of Islam at the rank of assistant professor beginning in Fall 2012. The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory and more specialized undergraduate courses in Islam in addition to basic courses in religious studies (e.g., Introduction to Religion), as well as contribute to graduate studies in Islam both in Emory’s Graduate Division of Religion and other units in the university. Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates working in Islam in: South Asia, Southeast Asia, Turkey and Central Asia, or Africa. We also seek a colleague who will contribute to the interdisciplinary ethos in the department and support existing strengths at Emory. Disciplinary interests that would fit well in the department and around the university include, but are not limited to, ethnography, gender studies, and the arts and media. PhD is required, as well as strong competency in research languages, preferably including Arabic; a substantive research trajectory; and excellent teaching potential in both the college and the graduate school.
