This comes as part of the “Providing Iftar to a Faster” event which is held annually for the soul of late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God grant him mercy, throughout the blessed month.

The Centre offers on a daily basis throughout the holy month of Ramadan between 16,000 and 20,000 meals in fourteen air-conditioned tents. More than 300 people serve the fasters and check all matters of preparation, follow-up and supervision. Coordination was arranged with the Ministry of Interior on all contingencies and for the organization of the entry and exit of vehicles.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has dedicated places where Iftar is provided to women, volunteers, and organizers. The SZGMC coordinates with the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi to provide public transport coaches in order to facilitate the arrival of fasters at the Iftar site in the Mosque on a daily basis.

The authorities cooperating with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center in the organization of the “Providing Iftar to a Faster” event, are: The Ministry of Interior, the Department of Public Transport in Abu Dhabi, the Red Crescent, the Armed Forces Officers’ Club in Abu Dhabi, the Moral Guidance Directorate at the General Command of the Armed Forces, the Waste Management Centre in Abu Dhabi, and the two departments of the Emergency and Public Safety, and the Special Tasks in Abu Dhabi Police.

The group Iftar at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi represents a multinational human portrait and reflects the principles of fraternity, generosity and hospitality which were sowed by the late leader, the founder of the UAE. These principles were strengthened by the wise leadership that came after him, headed by Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, may God protect him.

This Ramadan event, where the grounds of the Grand Mosque receive hundreds of thousands of fasters annually, also reflects the horizons of cultural plurality and diversity and spiritual richness of which the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is considered to be a major symbol in the UAE.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Presidential Affairs is sponsored and followed up by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The Centre was established to be a nucleus for a cultural and intellectual movement focused on the Mosque. This is based on the cultural and national values expressed in the concepts and values established by late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. It is these values that are deep-rooted in sentiment and consciousness, and form an extension of the national identity inspired from the teachings of our tolerant religion.
