All praise and thanks belong to God, the Lord of the Worlds,
May peace and prayers be upon Prophet Muhammad.
Asalaamu Alaykum Friends & Supporters:
As you know, our nation is once again on the verge of launching another disastrous war in the Middle East. To make matters worse, the media has spent the past several days speculating about possible Iranian attacks on America, including vague and unsubstantiated claims of "sleeper cells."
Such rhetoric could impact Iranian-Americans and other Muslims here at home. For example, CAIR Washington is currently assisting Iranian-American families who were detained at a border crossing for hours last weekend and asked inappropriate questions about their political views.
With all of this in mind, we write with two requests:
1. Sign this petition to urge your elected officials to support congressional legislation that would bar funding for President Trump's war on Iran.
2. Review CAIR Georgia's Know Your Rights advisory, which is available in Arabic, Farsi, and.... Two important things to keep in mind:
- If a federal law enforcement officer such as an FBI agent contacts you, DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM WITHOUT A LAWYER PRESENT. Contact us for assistance so that we can help you determine the best course of action.
- If you are an Iranian-American traveling internationally, prepare for the possibility that you might undergo secondary screening at the airport. It is HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE for border patrol officers to ask about your religious beliefs or political views. If this happens, decline to answer, get the name of the officer, ask to with a supervisor, and then contact us after you leave the airport so that we can file a complaint.
Seventeen years ago, many Muslim Americans spoke out against the invasion of Iraq, an illegal war that resulted in the killing of thousands of Iraqis, Americans and others around the world.
We must now speak up against President Trump's war on Iran, which could be even more disastrous. We must also prepare to protect Georgia Muslims from the Islamophobic rhetoric that often accompanies a march to war in the Middle East.
Please contact us immediately if you need assistance, or if you would like CAIR Georgia to deliver its full Know Your Rights presentation at your masjid.
May Allah SWT guide and protect us.
