US President says Tunisians’ will proved more powerful than writ of dictator.

 

 

 President Barack Obama said in his State of the Union speech Tuesday. In Tunisia "the will of the people proved more powerful than the writ of a dictator," Obama said in a prepared version of his remarks to Congress released by the White House. "And tonight, let us be clear: the United States of America stands with the people of Tunisia, and supports the democratic aspirations of all people." US Assistant Secretary of State Jeffrey Feltman earlier met senior officials and opposition figures during a visit to Tunis -- the first by a senior foreign official since the fall of president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali on January 14. "I certainly expect that we'll be using the Tunisian example" in talks with other Arab governments, Feltman told reporters, as thousands of people also took to the streets in Egypt calling for a Tunisia-style protest movement.
