We The People...

The phrase "all men are created equal," enshrined in America's Declaration of Independence, has long been a cornerstone of American identity. However, the historical context reveals a stark reality: this notion predominantly applied to white men. Native Americans, African Americans, and people of color were often marginalized or outright excluded from this ideal. The Constitution, while a groundbreaking document, reflected the prejudices of its time, allowing slavery and denying women and minorities fundamental rights.

Throughout history, systemic inequalities have persisted, shaping perceptions and treatment of various groups. The Founding Fathers, influenced by Enlightenment ideals, nevertheless upheld a society that favored white landowners. This contradiction invites scrutiny of America's claim to equality and justice.

By examining these hidden truths, we confront uncomfortable realities about inclusion and equity, prompting a reevaluation of what equality truly means in a nation built on diversity yet haunted by its history of exclusion.
