'IAEA report on Iran lacks legal value'

An Iranian lawmaker has dismissed the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran and said it lacks legal value.

Member of the Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Parviz Sorouri told Fars News Agency on Wednesday that considering the positions adopted by the US and some Western officials it was expected to see an anti-Iran report.

Sorouri noted that the US and Western positions also showed that the IAEA has written its new report on Iran in full coordination with Washington.

The Iranian lawmaker said that the report lacks legality and that the IAEA has "committed suicide by releasing its new report."

Sorouri said the IAEA has failed in its objectives to be a venue for experts to realize the truth and has instead turned into a place where politically-motivated reports are released.

IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano's latest report on Iran's nuclear activities was distributed to the 35 members of the Board of Governors on Tuesday evening, ahead of the seasonal meeting of the board, which is scheduled to be held in Vienna from November 17 to 18.

Iran dismissed the report as "unbalanced, unprofessional and prepared with political motivation and under political pressure by mostly the United States."

The United States, Israel, and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

However, as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, Iran has every right to develop and acquire nuclear technology meant for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence indicating that Iran's civilian nuclear program has been diverted to nuclear weapons production.
