I end Black August celebrating my amazing mother, Nubia Alake Lumumba’s Birthday. She passed away in 2003. Celebrate her with me! She was young, brilliant, committed to our struggle for freedom, committed to family and was truly my guide in all I did. She loved art, music, dancing, a good party and entertaining. I think of her every single day. I miss her. Sometimes for me celebrating her life with others brings me joy and comfort because I can hear her saying, “nobody wants you to turn down the music when you get to their grave. ICYMI: Mayor Lumumba closed on a $40 million agreement for infrastructure projects yesterday.
