On Monday, May 25, national Muslim leaders with the US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO) plan to hold a news conference at the annual Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) conference taking place in Baltimore, Maryland, to respond to last week’s deadly terror attack on a mosque in San Diego.

National and local Muslim advocacy organizations, led by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), have strongly condemned the deadly mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, California. The tragic event occurred just before and during the annual Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) convention held in Baltimore, Maryland.

Key updates surrounding the organizations' responses and the tragedy:
The Incident: Two gunmen opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and both suspects.
National & Local Condemnation: CAIR, along with other Muslim civil rights groups and leaders, immediately condemned the attack. In statements, the organization mourned the loss of the community members and called for thorough investigations into the motives and for increased safety measures at places of worship.
Response at the ICNA Convention: More than 25,000 Muslims gathered in Baltimore, Maryland for the annual ICNA conference. Leaders and attendees utilized the massive gathering to process their grief, honor the victims, and demand concrete action from the federal government regarding domestic terrorism and rising Islamophobia.
Calls for Security: In the wake of the California tragedy, Muslim organizations distributed safety resources and local mosques across the country were urged to review and heighten their security protocols.
