Marie Johnson Robinson...
Mrs. Marie Johnson Robinson was born on October 15, 1947, (82 years removed from Emancipation Proclamation, 1865), in Halifax County, North Carolina, to the late Earlie L. “Tiney” Johnson, Sr. and Frances Johnson Johnson.
She was reared in the Summit Community of Littleton, North Carolina, (home of Ms. Ella J Baker) where she also attended the former Print Elementary School (Rosenwald School),and Fidelity Baptist Church. After Print Elementary School closed, she attended Everetts Elementary School (Rosenwald School), in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, before heading to McIver High School in Littleton and graduating with the class of 1965. After graduation, she attended Winston-Salem State University, graduated with honors, and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She taught in the Halifax County School System and remained until her retirement in 1998. She then became employed with Halifax Community College in the Work First program, and later became an Induction Specialist with the Halifax County School System where she helped to train new teachers until 2010.
Marie retired from the Halifax Community College Board of Trustees on June 30, 2021, after eight years of service, and also from the Halifax-Warren Smart Start Partnership for Children Board of Directors after thirteen years of service. Her term with the Halifax County Library Board will expire on June 30, 2022.
Marie has been married to her husband, Sam, for fifty-three years, and is the mother of three children, and the grandmother of two.
She enjoys reading, studying the Bible and teaching her adult Sunday school class, spending time with her family and friends, bargain shopping, listening to music, dancing, writing poetry, and talking.
Her favorite scripture is from Philippians 4:11, when the Apostle Paul states: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”
Her favorite quote is from Vadell Sassoon who says: “The only time Success comes before Work is in the dictionary.”
