Jamaicans are beaming with pride as Kamala Harris becomes the running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. That’s because Kamala’s father Donald Harris has his roots in the Caribbean country.

Harris was a Professor of Economics at Stanford University, and advised many governments, including Jamaica, on economic policies. He even served, for a brief period, as the director for the Consortium of Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of West Indies.

Corruption critic shot dead in Libya's Benghazi | Middle East Eye

Gunmen have shot dead a prominent female dissident on a busy street in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, in the latest killing of a critic of military strongman Khalifa Haftar.

Hanan al-Barassi, an outspoken critic of abuses in the eastern areas controlled by Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA), was shot dead in her car in broad daylight on 20th Street, a busy artery in Benghazi’s city centre, rights groups and security officials said.

A prominent figure in Libya, 46-year-old Barassi was known for giving voice to female victims of violence in videos that she broadcast on social media.

She also ran a local association for the defence of women’s rights.

Ajir Kofi Bilal Mahmud is one of the original founders of The Atlanta Mosque (1977) and has been a Board Member since its inception.  He is a US Marine Corp veteran and freelance photographer and reporter with several blogs and websites, documenting Islam in America.  He was critical in negotiating the purchase of the original property at 442 14th Street, attending and meeting with the city officials to negotiate approval for zoning rights to establish the Masjid.  He also helped negotiate several land purchases, construction of the former Al-Farooq Masjid structure and the current Al-Farooq Masjid building. Female Palestine teacher wins Global Teacher Award 2020 | The nation press

Asma  Mustafa...

Palestinian teacher Asma Mustafa has won the Global Teacher Award 2020, Palestinian news agencies reported.

Asma Mustafa, an English Teacher in Halima Al Saadia Intermediate School for Girls, north of the besieged Gaza Strip, graduated from the English language department at the Islamic University of Gaza in 2008.

"Palestine deserves to lead global education," is Mustafa's vision that stimulated her progress in teaching English and then led her to participate in international conferences.

She impressed thousands of teachers from 110 countries and won after she participated in the teaching competition, presenting a range of creative resources in teaching.
