WHO’S IN THE VALLEY: Katrenia Sneed Logan
Katrenia Sneed Logan, a minister and 33-year veteran at the KapStone mill, recently authored a book using Biblical, mythological and historic contexts to prove women can be anything they want.
same time.
For Roanoke Rapids native Katrenia Sneed Logan, it was a quest that started with her search for direction in her ministry.
Logan said her new book, “My Quest — To Find a Woman’s Place in a Man’s World via Dolorosa” started as a book of meditations, but research on women’s issues and her personal experiences evolved, both herself and the manuscript, into something more.
“It’s a different book, but (in the end) I felt like this is where it needed to be,” she said.
Logan said she was concerned people might be put off by the book’s title. She said some people may be offended by her using words like “a woman’s place” and “a man’s world” in the same sentence, but she said this book is about getting real.
“It’s the reality, and we’ve got to deal with it,” she said. “I want it to be popular, but I also wanted it to be inspiring and uplifting. Maybe younger women can learn through the insights and what I’ve learned through scripture.”
Logan, who was first published in 1987, said she used biblical, mythological and historic contexts to prove women can be anything they want to be. Historically, she said, a woman’s “place” has been defined as “confined” to the house because hatred and mistrust of women has been strongly incorporated into society and culture. Nevertheless, it is something that has to be dealt with.
Logan shows women have thrived in positions of leadership as far back as Old Testament times.
“We can be whatever God calls us to be and do it very well,” she said.
Logan has gotten great reviews from her readers, with emails and comments coming in regularly.
Retired Col. Archie B. Taylor, of Henderson, said, “First, words are not adequate to explain how thoroughly enjoyable and satisfying I found your book. I found your approach to ascertaining ‘a woman’s place in a man’s world’ based on a Christian/Biblical perspective to be enlightening. I like the scholarly approach used to express your views and autobiographical insights. It is perhaps the best ‘self published’ book I have read. Congratulations on a job well done. Your “QUEST” should prove a blessing to all who read it.”
Stacey Henderson, of Roanoke Rapids, also liked the book.
“Want (you) to know that your book was written for me … There is so much info in each page, it’s like answering my questions I have had for so long, one by one,” Henderson said. “I can’t wait to read the next page.”
Logan is the daughter of the late Roy and Virginia Sneed. She is the 14th of 15 children.
She is a member, minister and evangelist for the Lighthouse of Deliverance in Lincoln Heights.
She said she enjoys to travel through the ministry, but the guys at KapStone, where she works as an administrative assistant in the maintenance department, tell her she has plenty of ministry opportunities at the plant. She has worked at KapStone for 33 years.
