THE PEACE THRU JUSTICE FOUNDATION
The Ramadan Campaign for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui
Phase Two
Assalaamu Alaikum (Greetings of Peace):
Phase Two of this very important campaign has taken on even greater significance, as a result of the reported deliberations taking place over the possibility of a prisoner swap (between the U.S. and Pakistan) involving Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Congressmen Keith Ellison and Andre Carson are Muslim lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives, with a special obligation (in my humble opinion) to do whatever they can for this long suffering Muslimah. Neither legislator has taken a public position on the case of Dr. Siddiqui to date - while both lawmakers should be well acquainted with her case, because we've provided their offices (and the office of Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee) with adequate information on the case.
Congresswoman Jackson Lee (a senior lawmaker on the Hill) represents the city where Aafia began her good work in the United States (Houston, TX), and where she still has family. All three of these congressional leaders are also members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), which in the past has been referred to as the "Conscience of Capitol Hill."
With that said, we ask during the course of this week (the sooner the better) that Aafia's supporters call and e-mail (and /or fax) each of the Foreign Affairs Staffers listed below, and politely but firmly request that each congressional leader release a public statement that calls for the repatriation of Dr. Siddiqui (her release from U.S. custody and return home) as soon as humanly possible - and that the statement calling for such release be placed on the congressional leader's official website.
2). Congressman Andre Carson - Office: (202) 225-4011
Foreign Affairs Staffer, Nathan Bennett, Fax: (202) 225-5633
(the staffer who responded to my queries at Rep Carson's office said they do not give out e-mails. If, however, you are unable to send a fax, this e-mail address may work: nathan.bennett@mail.house.gov)
3). Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee - Office: (202) 225-3816
Again, we thank all of our, and Aafia's, friends and supporters for responding to this time-sensitive human rights campaign! Should you have any questions on what's being requested of you, please feel free to contact me at (202) 246-9608 or via e-mail: peacethrujustice@aol.com .
In the struggle for peace thru justice,
El-Hajj Mauri' Saalakhan
