Why I Am Voting For Stacey Abrams
October 5, 2022
By Imam Nadim S. Ali
I had the honor of attending a community event at the ALI at Lakewood Event Center featuring Ga. Gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. The session was moderated by talk show host Rashad Richie. Ms. Abrams was able to offer a clear vision of her role as governor should the people of Georgia give her the job. She aspires to be a transformative leader of this state. She was able to share that under her leadership the changes that can be made have the potential to impact Georgia for the next 40 years.
She was able to share that she desires to be the governor of all of Georgia, and not just the wealthy of Georgia. I envision her to be a servant governor from day one based on what she has accomplished since as Rashad Ritchie stated that she was denied the job of governor through the voter suppression efforts of then Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
Ms. Abrams cited the advances that the City of Atlanta made under the stewardship of the late Mayor Maynard Jackson, and stated that she would like to be the “ Maynard Jackson Of the state of Georgia. This aspiration is designed to not only bring development to Georgia, but to develop the state into a place in which all of its citizens experience a healthy quality of life.
She stated that Georgia has the potential to be a powerful state under a more focused, and intentional leadership. She was critical of Governor Kemp's leadership during the pandemic due to the fact that he did not rely on science to open up the state in an effort to be first in the nation instead of protecting the citizens of Georgia. This lack of leadership contributed to the deaths of an estimated 38,000 Georgians from COVID.
Some of the commitments that Ms. Abrams made to those in attendance are as follows:
Ms. Abrams was able to come across as engaging, and committed. She was also able to connect with those in attendance, and did not shy away from questions from the audience. Stacey Abrams has the potential to make history as the first African American female to serve as the governor of a state.
She does not just want to make history, but based on the commitments that she has made she wants to make a difference. I support her for Governor, and I would encourage you to visit her website (staceabrams.com)to see if you can support her also.
