Today the U.S. District Court ruled to halt Senate Bill 2343’s’provision that restrains residents’ right to protest, rally, parade or host an event anywhere near a building occupied by a Mississippi state official. The Court said, ‘the failure of the State Legislature and the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to promulgate/provide rules and regulations in SB2343, or in a reasonable time before the bill goes into effect on July 1, is essentially a prior restraint that “chills” citizens’ Freedom of Speech by failing to provide citizens with any clear understanding of how they should obtain a permit, who can protest, what actions they can engage in, and what actions can result in arrest. The Court said the failure to create these rules makes the provision unconstitutional in its face. This is a victory for all Mississippians. When we work together, we win together! #JXNUNDIVIDED
