what would be a vacant lot  located at 2491 Martin Luther King Dr., S.W. Atlanta, Ga.  The site was reminiscent of the celebratory atmosphere  of the breaking of the fast.  This  event was sponsored by IMAN Atlanta, a grassroots organization dedicated to the upliftment of the less fortunate in the Atlanta area.

Who is IMAN, and what is it's history?  The Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) is a community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts, and operating a holistic health center.

IMAN incorporated as a nonprofit in 1997 through the drive of people directly affected by and deeply invested in social issues affecting communities of color living on Chicago’s South Side. Since that time, IMAN has steadily grown and, in 2016, opened a second office in Atlanta to continue mobilizing a cross-section of people committed to this mission.

The gathering culminated with a message from Sister Ieasha Prime, who reminded the audience of the importance of putting our total trust in Allah and knowing the He will never forsake us in doing that which is good.

Change. Serve. Inspire.

As our world becomes increasingly interconnected, it's important to recognize the vital role that location plays in shaping our communities. Whether we're talking about urban centers, rural areas, or anything in between, the way that we organize ourselves and our resources can have a profound impact on the quality of life for those who call a particular place home.

One key factor in this equation is the role of government in supporting community organizing. When local authorities take an active role in fostering grassroots efforts to build stronger, more resilient communities, the results can be truly transformative.

Special thanks to #atlanta 61st mayor Andre Dickens for coming out and showing support for the effort to reimagine and revitalize ATL’s #westend. It was an honor and privilege to celebrate #Iftar with such a vibrant and dynamic community!
