life journey epitomizes a commitment to the sacred mission of struggling against injustice and oppression. Whether as a member of the Black Panther Party, the Republic of New Africa, as the "Spirit" of Gil Scott's Heron's Midnight Band, or as a practitoner of holistic healing and proponent of acupuncture as an antidote for drug addiction and other social and physical maladies, Br. Bilal enveloped his endeavors in the revolutionary tenets of Islam. From my early years as a Muslim living in DC, I would repeatedly hear this humble brother's name mentioned in the context of dedicated servants of oppressed people, particularly people of African descent. It was after decades of admiring Br. Bilal's social justice commitment from a distance that I finally met our dear brother. When we met, he was the Amir/Leader of IJAN, Imam Jamil Action Network. I pray that his example of faithful struggle will continue to be an inspiration to others and serve as sadaqah jariyah, ongoing charity for his benefit even after death. May Allah forgive his shortcomings, make his grave spacious and filled with light, and grant him Jannatul Firdous, the highest level of Paradise. I pray that his beloved family, friends, and beneficiaries of his work be given by our Lord patience and comfort with His decision.

Today we honored and buried a Warrior, a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather, an Uncle, a Mentor and a Brother in Deen (Faith)

I’m happy I was honored to know him, to play music with him and to just hear his words of wisdom whenever you were in his company. He was a Beautiful Soul.

Brother Bilal Sunni-Ali…Saying he will be missed is quite the understatement.

His leaving this plane will definitely leave a huge void , however by remembering him and following the path he laid out for us he will always be remembered. There is an African Proverb that says “ No one is truly dead until there is no longer anyone to remember them.” So that being said

Brother Bilal will always be with us because there are thousands who will never forget him.

Poem for Our Warrior Soldier Brother Bilal Sunni-Ali

Revolutionary Heaven II

Our Warrior Brother, Bilal Sunni-Ali has taken his righteous place amongst the ancestors. He entered the space on December 30, 2024

As he arrived, Brother Bilal noticed in awe
they are all there dressed in celebratory African garments with royal colors of purple, gold, and some in all white.

However, some of the
Soldiers, Aladjo Adegbalola, Ahmed Obafemi and Chaka Fuller are dressed in full black Legionnaire uniform with brogan boots and leopard cloth embroidered into their caps and shoulder pads.

Warrior Brothers Mutulu Shakur and Sekou Odinga walks gallantly over to escort Bilal in. They all three walk and look like young soldiers with no semblance of pain or aging.

Once again Bilal is united with his comrade-attorney. Brother Chokwe Lumumba who rises from the table and offers Bilal a seat near him and his lovely wife Nubia Lumumba.

As Bilal walks toward them, he notices a table of familiar faces, and he cannot contain his excitement:

Queen Mother Moore, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Robert and Mabel Williams, ...wait there's more...Kwame Toure/Stokley Carmichael, Patrice Lumumba, and Jomo Kenyatta.

Bilal stops, it is so much to take in. Bilal is feeling overwhelmed with love and gratitude when
Brothers Gaidi and Imari Obadele are also approaching the festive table
with Our beloved El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz!

As Bilal approached the table, he then saw the most amazing sight, his beautiful soulmate, lover, friend and wife. Bilal and Fulani Sunni-Ali was once again reunited.

This must be Revolutionary Heaven, Bilal thought, as he engaged in an infinite embrace with his own Queen Fulani.
