You may be sabotaging your own happiness. Right when things look better you will yourself to mess it up...with fear, with doubt, with insecurity. It may be that you don't really believe you deserve good things. Deep down you may believe that joy is for those other people who have no sins, no regrets, no mistakes. Believing that you are deserving of God's grace is the prerequisite of happiness. Without it you will continue to judge yourself with the scales of human accounting where we all come out short. None of us deserve even to breath. But the scales you use are flawed because He has already decreed that His compassion supersedes His justice. Count on this and nothing else. Happiness is opening your heart to the rain of His undeserved generosity. Not because you're "worth it". But because you don't have to be.

For the new year:2023

Two powerful concepts I recently learned were

1. You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your habits. Make better habits not higher goals (Atomic Habits) Instead of New Year’s resolutions, try creating new habits and finding ways to enjoy the journey, not just look to the destination. For example, instead of setting a “goal” of losing 10 pounds by Valentine’s Day (SMART goal) set your schedule up so you workout and eat better every day (create a habit), and achieving the goal will be the consequence.

2. Everything that comes our way, good or ‘bad’ is from God. We therefore must respond for God. And in that effort to respond ethically no matter what we must call upon God for help: with God. From God, For God, With God (Ustath Hassan Elwan)
