and a variety of fast spreading diseases, as raging waters from the bloated Indus river marooned dozens more villages and hundreds of thousands of survivors are still cut off from rescue more than two weeks after Pakistan's worst-ever flooding hit the country we are going to be watching, over the months to come, the systematic collapse of a country.

Greece
Stores are closing, tax revenues are falling and unemployment has hit an unbelievable 70 percent in some places. Frustrated workers are threatening to strike back. With billions of dollars in debt, Greece is hanging on by a thread. We will, over the course of the next several years, watch the systemic collapse of more then just one European country.

The USA
With 22% actual unemployment a significant number of lost jobs will not be returning, ever. That means that the new "normal" might very well be 22% unemployment. Considering that the death spiral of the US economy is far from over that figure may actually increase in the years ahead. In three years we've seen 10 million people lose their homes. It's not over yet.

For whatever life was worth in Haiti prior to the earthquake, it's worth far less now.
