yourself,” In order for us to be globalized citizens, we must want for our brother and sister what we want for ourselves. We can’t reach our true potential until we realize that we reside in a global community. Al Islam wants every human being to live with a global perspective not a narrow-minded perspective. One of the world’s greatest global leaders Imam W.D Mohammed said, “This is the day of religion and the day of globalization. Allah says come willing or unwilling, it really doesn’t matter with God, because He has designed this day and time with truth, justice and mercy. The world is opening up to faith in God and we belong to this new idea of patriotism that requires global justice and peace, for we all live in one room today, the world is truly a global village.”
A global thinker is an individual who is aware of the various issues and concepts of the world affecting all of us. This afternoon my classmates will discuss Globalization, and its impacts and challenges relating to Environment, Technology, Culture, Womanhood, Modesty, Education, Peace Politics, Indifferences, Wealth, Poverty, Faith, Freedom, Locality, Responsibility, Nationalism, and Islam, all with our personal insights!
In attaining a global perspective we must put aside all selfish views to help others in achieving global prosperity. For today, every single one of us is a global citizen, whether we are conscious of it or not. Global inter-dependence happens every day. We rely on countless different people from all over the world for the clothes we wear, the food we eat and the technology we use. Our daily lives are constantly affected by what people around the world are doing. It is upon
As followers of Al-Islam it’s upon us to be global leaders to set the example of global citizenship and its responsibilities for others to emulate and expand.
In Al-Islam, we hold a tradition that encourages the acquiring of knowledge while conquering one’s self in various aspects of our character and acceptance of individuals of various walks of life. Without knowledge of the world around us, procuring global prosperity would be impossible. Only through global thinking are we able to learn about how fruitful this world is and cultivate it to augment our knowledge of it.
Global thinking connects us through the technology of this generation. We have already conquered the earth in individual aspects, as we can talk to our fellow man across the world. The alignment of our cultures has been such a norm that we tend to forget how much we are truly connected. Technology has created the world to be a melting pot of various cultures, beliefs, and practices in this shared freedom space we call our world.
We inhabit this world to share this space as we our teachings become interconnected we must promote our fellow man’s beliefs and practices as our cultures are to co-exist. We must protect our fellow man in this world. We must emphasize our similarities rather than promote our differences. If we uphold our differences in the form of ignorance, we will spiral into social battles of faith, land, and ultimately adulterating global prosperity. It is upon us as global citizens to stand firm and promote peace and prosperity to prevent war before war prevents peace and prosperity. It was said by Kofi Annam that, “Arguing against globalization is like arguing against the laws of gravity.”
The Qur'an reminds us: "And the servants of the Merciful are those who walk on the earth in humility...." (Qur'an 25:63) Aren’t the fruits of the Gardens of Paradise are said to hang low in humility. It is an attribute of creation that, when it recognizes Allah's (Gods) signs, when it has an awareness of His Presence, it grows humble in relation to Him, to His servants, and is not overbearing towards His creation. As we are the forgers of a globalized society, we too must stay in humble means, for are not human as those of our fellow creation? Even as leaders we must step off of the pedestal which we are placed upon and interact with our neighbor on the most humble of levels. Yes we are leaders, but we are only human and creation of God, for we shall not adulterate our modesty as Khalifa (Guardian) in the journey to uplift the multitudes. It is true that; we come from different cultures, we worship differently, talk differently, dress differently, judge differently, and are taught different, but we are all still only human in Allah’s omniscient plan? So allow my peers and I to lead the way with our hearts full of joy and hope to promote a loving and connected global community of prosperous global citizens!
