Medgar Evers (July 2, 1925) was a World War II veteran who became one of the most fearless civil rights activists in Mississippi, serving as the NAACP's first field secretary in the state. He organized voter registration drives, investigated racial murders, and refused to back down. On June 12, 1963, he was shot in his driveway by a white supremacist. He was 37 years old.

Patrice Lumumba (July 2, 1925) was the first democratically elected Prime Minister of the Congo after leading his country to independence from Belgium in 1960. He served 67 days before being removed in a CIA-backed coup. He was executed by firing squad in January 1961 at age 35. Belgium didn't formally apologize until 2002.

Thurgood Marshall (July 2, 1908) was the architect of the legal strategy that dismantled school segregation in America. He argued and won Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, went on to win 29 of the 32 cases he argued before the Supreme Court, and in 1967 became the first Black Justice in the history of that court.
