The Gaza conflict has become the deadliest period for the press in modern history. The Committee to Protect Journalists

Journalist and Aid Workers In Gaza...

and United Nations report that over 270 journalists and media workers have been killed (11 of whom are from Al Jazeera)  in the territory since October 2023. The unprecedented scale of these deaths has led some advocates and experts to label the crisis a targeted campaign of "journocide" aimed at creating a media blackout. 

Local Palestinian journalists are the world's primary window into the region, as foreign press entry is heavily restricted. Reporters continue their work under extreme conditions, including: 

• Targeted Strikes: Dozens have been killed in airstrikes while wearing flak jackets clearly marked "PRESS".
• Family Devastation: Many journalists have lost their homes, and some have been killed alongside their entire families.
• Severe Resource Scarcity: Correspondents operate without electricity, safety gear, or steady internet access, often collapsing from exhaustion and hunger while broadcasting.
