The Monster They Built Is Now Eating Them.

There is a lesson our grandmothers tried to teach us that the Western world is only now learning in real time, on social media, for the whole world to watch.
When you build a monster and hand it a microphone, do not be surprised when one day it turns the microphone toward you.
This is not a story about American politics.
This is a story about power, loyalty, and what happens when the people who carried a king to his throne finally look up and ask — what exactly have we done?
How The Throne Was Built
For years, Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones were the loudest voices in the room. They were the amplifiers. The evangelists. The ones who took a political movement and gave it a face, a language, and an audience of millions.
They did not just support Donald Trump. They built the atmosphere that made him possible. Night after night, podcast after podcast, post after post — they fed their audiences a steady diet of grievance, fear, and certainty. And at the centre of it all stood one man who understood better than anyone how to consume that energy and turn it into power.
The relationship was simple. They needed relevance. He needed reach. And for years, it worked.
The Day The Iran Question Changed Everything
Then came the Iran war.
When Trump posted on Truth Social threatening that a "whole civilization will die tonight" if Iran did not reach a deal, the post enraged many of his own MAGA allies.
The voices that had carried him did not stay quiet.
Megyn Kelly said she was "sick of this" and that a president does not threaten to wipe out an entire civilisation in a casual social media post. Tucker Carlson called the post "vile on every level." Candace Owens wrote "we are beyond madness." Alex Jones warned that Trump "literally sounds like an unhinged supervillain."
These were not the words of political opponents. These were the words of the people who had spent years telling their audiences that this man was different. That he was the answer. That he alone could fix it.
And now they were watching what they had built — and they did not like what they saw.
"The most important thing for me is that I've used my talents as a writer to enable people to confront their tormentors. I was not able to do it as a politician or a businessman. My writing did it." — Ken Saro-Wiwa
Saro-Wiwa understood that truth told too late is still truth. That the moment a person sees clearly — even after years of blindness — that moment still matters. The question is whether the clarity comes in time to mean anything.
For Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones, the clarity came. But it came after years of amplification. After the audiences were already built. After the movement was already in motion. After the bombs were already falling.
Trump's response was not diplomatic. It was not measured. It was everything his critics outside MAGA had been saying about him for years — delivered now by the man himself, aimed directly at the people who made him.
In a 482-word Truth Social post, Trump attacked all four as having "Low IQs," calling them "NUT JOBS" and "TROUBLEMAKERS" running "Third Rate Podcasts."
He called Tucker Carlson a broken man who could not finish college. He said Megyn Kelly was nasty. He mocked Candace Owens' appearance. He said Alex Jones deserved to lose everything for what he did to the Sandy Hook families.
And then — in the line that should make every Nigerian paying attention sit up — Trump said he could get any of them back on his side whenever he wanted, but when they call, he does not return their calls.
He was not angry because they disagreed with him.
He was angry because they were no longer useful.
What Chinua Achebe Already Knew
Achebe warned us that the trouble with powerful men is not that they lack intelligence. It is that they use their intelligence entirely for themselves. Every alliance they form is transactional. Every loyalty they display is conditional. And the moment you stop serving the purpose — the moment you ask a question they do not want answered — you discover that you were never really inside the circle. You were always just standing close enough to feel the warmth.
Aminu Kano spent his life telling the poor and the powerless of Nigeria this same truth. That the man who comes to you with fire and fury and promises of strength is rarely fighting for you. He is fighting for the idea of himself. And you — your vote, your voice, your platform — were simply the vehicle.
Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones are not victims. They made their choices with open eyes and full platforms. But the millions who followed them — who believed that the anger those voices channelled was righteous, was principled, was pointed in the right direction — those people deserve to ask a harder question today.
When the people who built the throne start calling it a monster, what does that make everyone who helped carry it?
The Moral
The lion does not warn you before it turns. It simply turns.
And the most dangerous version of power is not the power that was always against you. It is the power you helped build, cheered for, defended — and only recognised as dangerous the day it looked in your direction.
Nigeria, we are watching this from across the ocean and nodding our heads as if it is a foreign story. But we have seen this script before. We have played every role in it. The amplifiers. The loyalists. The ones who woke up too late.
The question is not what is happening in America.
The question is — who are we currently carrying to a throne, and what will we do the day it turns⁉️
I Am ashamed. But not silent.
