Brother Mohamed Balla serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Atlanta, a position he has held since July 2021

Born in Sudan, North Africa, he immigrated to the United States at the age of 8 with his family, initially settling in Michigan. The family later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Brother Mohamed attended W.D. Mohammed High School. Following his graduation, he continued his education at Morehouse College, a prestigious institution renowned for cultivating influential leaders, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Senator Raphael G. Warnock.

In his current role, Brother Balla advises the Mayor and City Council on various policies, issues, and financial activities, demonstrating his commitment to public service and fiscal responsibility. His extensive background in financial management includes serving as the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Financial Officer of the Department of Watershed Management (DWM), where he oversaw the department's multibillion-dollar financial functions. Before his role at DWM, he was instrumental in the City's pension reform team, successfully restructuring the $3 billion pension plan.

Brother Balla also managed the City’s Cash and Investment portfolio, ensuring the prudent oversight of a $1.5 billion fund. His professional journey reflects a deep dedication to both his community and his professional responsibilities, earning him respect and admiration within the Atlanta Muslim community and beyond.
