To God we belong and to Him we return. Our sister Shuhada Sadaqat, better known as Sinéad O’Conner died at the age of

56. May God shower His mercy on her soul. May she find rest and peace after her fearless but difficult life. In this picture from @irishtimesnews she is accepting a national award in Ireland earlier this year for her hit album ‘I do not want what I haven’t got’ which featured her most successful song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ written by Prince. She dedicated the award to refugees in her country. What ever you think of her politics or chosen modes of expression, this woman lived courageously in her integrity.

Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, who has died at the age of 56, converted to Islam in 2018 and changed her name to Shuhada Davitt (later Shuhada Sadaqat).

In a tweet on October 19 that year, O’Connor, who was born a Roman Catholic, announced that she was now a “proud Muslim” and that she had adopted a new name.

Our Sister in faith, Shuhada' Sadaqat, previously known as Sinéad O'Conner, who converted to Islam in 2018, has sadly passed at the age of 56.

Announcing her conversion, she said, "This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian's journey. All scripture studies lead to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant."

May Allah subhana wa'taala have mercy on her, forgive her sins, make her grave a garden of paradise, and bless her with jannah al firdous, ameen!

"The word 'revert' refers to the idea that if you were to study the Quran, you would realise you were a Muslim all

your life, and you didn't realise it," the singer explained to host, Ryan Tubridy, "and that is what happened to me."

"I am 52," she continued, "and grew up in a very different Ireland to the one that exists now. It was a very oppressed country, religiously speaking.

"I started studying scriptures from different religious, trying to find the 'truth' about God ... I never thought I would join a religion, but I left Islam until last because I had so much prejudice about Islam.

"But then when I started reading, and I read just chapter two alone of the Quran, and I realised, 'Oh my God, I am home'.

"I had been a Muslim all my life and didn't realise it."
