Sheikh Yasir Qadhi has been a prominent figure in the Texas Muslim community, advocating for unity and understanding among Muslims and between different faiths. Recently, he expressed deep disappointment over Congressman Keith Self's (R)  support for an anti-Sharia law bill in Congress. This legislation, which aims to prohibit the application of Islamic law in U.S. courts, is seen as a direct attack on the rights and freedoms of Muslim Americans.

The betrayal felt by the Texas Muslim community is profound, as many trusted Mr Self to represent their interests fairly. They believe that such a bill incites fear and misunderstanding about Islam, framing it as incompatible with American values. Sheikh Qadhi emphasized that this stance only deepens the divide and promotes discrimination rather than fostering a community of mutual respect.

In response to the anti-Sharia bill, the Texas Muslim community has united in opposition, organizing protests and outreach efforts to educate the broader public about Islam and the importance of coexistence. They argue that laws targeting specific religions are not only unjust but also threaten the fundamental principles of religious freedom and democracy in the United States. This moment has galvanized the community to advocate for their rights and counteract hate with proactive engagement and dialogue.
