Health and wellness, specifically as it relates to weight loss can be a very sensitive topic for women (and men)! There are many underlying/environmental factors as to why a woman May struggle with her weight! Brothers please be careful with the way that you address your mates/women folk as it pertains to this subject, InshaAllah. There IS a wrong way to do it! I’ve seen a couple of posts recently that struck nerves unnecessarily, so I wanted to address it. Telling folks unrelated (or even related) to you how their body should look is probable NOT the best approach. (Insert eye roll, lol) It’s incumbent upon us to speak a word to the right, but delivery is everything!

Tips for delivery (to your spouse):

• Advise her that it would be great if you all started moving more as a couple/family... then suggest evening walks after dinner, leisurely bike rides on the weekends, etc.

• Tell her about Your goals for health and wellness and ask for feedback to engage conversation/reflection on the topic.

• Discuss the fact that You are cutting back on eating out/junk snacks and you’d love her support and encouragement.

These are just a few, we can discuss more in the comments!

Let’s get our points across but try to do better with being mindful in our speech, InshaAllah. People are out here struggling and don’t need ridicule as a means of “encouragement”!

Side note that I have to mention: It is a fact that the sunnah is 1/3 food, water and air. The Prophet, may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, also encouraged/demonstrated: running, archery, horseback riding, swimming etc... consistent movement. We would ALL be healthier as families/communities if we implemented these practices MORE, InshaAllah. We’d be stronger with these tools if (when) facing disease as well, May Allah protect us from that!

I know it’s hard (or can be hard) to make consistent changes! Let’s try to address the underlying reasons as to why and then take Small steps to a healthier life- as families and community members. There WILL be ebbs and flows... when (if) you “fall off” there is tomorrow, InshaAllah to get back to it! You can’t just say “F” it (forget it)!! Be moderate in your approach, it’s never all or nothing! Cutting Back on things not serving a worthwhile purpose IS progress!! Bismillah!
