OPOW: Rep. John Lewis Mourns the Death of Dr. Silas Norman

                "Dr. Silas Norman was one of the most dedicated and committed young leaders of the

Civil Rights Movement.  For some time, he led the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee voting rights project in Selma and in Dallas County, Alabama.  He was one of the most gifted, talented young leaders of the voting rights struggle.

 

            "He was a brilliant man, who never sought the limelight.  He simply did his job, and he did it well. He spent his life on the frontlines of human service, doing what he could to mend the wounds of his fellow man. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  My heart goes out to all his family and friends who have lost the presence in their lives of an extraordinary human being.  He will be deeply missed."
