"On behalf of the Georgia Muslim community, CAIR Georgia extends our deep and sincere condolences to the family of former state senator Vincent Fort.

"Senator Fort was a dedicated friend of the Muslim community who consistently stood with us, whether we were holding a food drive, standing up to hate groups, or memorializing Muhammad Ali. He was also a vocal advocate for various causes of justice inside and outside the City of Atlanta, including the struggle against Cop City.

"We are grateful for the time we had with Senator Fort, and we encourage other elected officials in Georgia to honor his legacy by embracing and carrying on the positive work that he did. May God comfort and guide Senator Fort's family at this difficult moment. To God we belong, and to God we belong."

Senator Fort was a strong supporter of CAIR Georgia and frequently collaborated with its former outreach director Elhuni Asma.

He attended CAIR Georgia's first annual gala in 2016, spoke at an interfaith rally at Al Farooq Masjid hosted in response to anti-Sharia rallies, spoke at the memorial service for Muhammad Ali, may Allah have mercy on him, at Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam, among other collaborations.

On behalf of the Al-Farooq Masjid community we will miss our brother immensely...
