During my event at Manchester last weekend I had the privilege of meeting with a group of brothers and sisters who are deaf and were attending my lecture. My de...epest gratitude to the sign interpreters. They expressed how exclusionary most events in the U.K. are where they ask organizers to provide sign and are dismissed or refused. This is truly unacceptable. This is their right and our duty. If we have the money for event venue, speakers and marketing we can find money for interpreters. I asked them to compile a list of qualified interpreters familiar with our religious vocabulary. On my end, I will require an interpreter at my public lectures of 100 or more people or I won't go and offer 5% off my speaking fee to help cover the cost. I encourage other public speakers to do the same. I appreciate RIS and ISNA who already provide this right to our brothers and sisters with a hearing disability.
