Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyatullah was also one of the founding member of the Al-Farooq Masjid of Atlanta.  We will miss our brother tremendously.

The President of the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), Sheikh Abdul Rasheed Hadiyatullah, has died on Monday at the age of 81, marking the end of an era in the country’s Islamic leadership.

The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday night by Sheikh Daood Imran Molaasan, the Grand Mufti of Yorubaland. However, the statement did not disclose the exact date or location of the cleric’s death.

“Sheikh Hadiyatullah died leaving a significant void in the country’s Islamic leadership,” Molaasan said.

Born in Iwo, a town in Osun State renowned for its deep Islamic heritage, Sheikh Hadiyatullah was widely respected as an Islamic scholar and jurist. He was well known for his dedication to the advancement of Shari’ah law within constitutional boundaries, as well as for his active promotion of interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence among Nigeria’s religious communities.

“He served as the President of the SCSN for several years, guiding the council through times of both societal challenge and growth,” Molaasan noted.

According to Molaasan, the late cleric began his Islamic education under local scholars before furthering his studies abroad. His deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and calm, principled leadership style earned him admiration across Nigeria and beyond.

“Sheikh Hadiyatullah received his early Islamic education under local scholars before advancing his studies abroad. He earned respect across Nigeria and beyond for his profound knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence and his calm, principled leadership style,” he added.

Concluding the statement, Sheikh Molaasan prayed for divine mercy and eternal peace for the deceased.
He said, “May Allah forgive Sheikh Hadiyatullah and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.”

With deep sadness and sorrow, and hearts that believe in God's will and destiny, we mourn our teacher and educator, Sheikh Abdul Rashid Hadiyyatullah. To God we belong and to Him we shall return. O God, forgive him, have mercy on him, and grant him a place in your spacious gardens. May God inspire his family and loved ones with patience and solace.

O God, wash him with water, snow and hail, and purify him from sins and faults as a white garment is purified from filth. O God, replace his family with a better family and his home with a better home.

He came to you, and you are the most generous and honorable. He sought refuge in you, and you are the most gracious and most merciful. Honor his stay, expand his entrance, and relieve his loneliness. May God reward you greatly and console you. May God forgive your deceased and grant him a place in His spacious gardens, O Lord of the worlds.

Prominent Iwo, Osun State-born Muslim scholar, Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, is dead.

Muslim News gathered that the respected Muslim scholar returned to his Creator, Allah, late Monday, April 28, 2025.

Until his death, he was President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria and Director of Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria.

A statement obtained by Muslim News announcing his death said the janazah prayer for the deceased scholar will be performed by 2pm tomorrow at the Shariah College, Iwo.

“We announce with deep sadness the passing of Sheikh Abdur Rasheed Hadiyyatullah Iwo, President of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria and Director of Sheikh Ibn Baz Shariah College of Nigeria. Sheikh Abdur Rasheed was a respected Islamic scholar,” the statement read.

“He dedicated his life to the service of Islam, dawah teaching, guiding with sincerity and wisdom. His knowledge, humility, devotion and generosity will be greatly missed.

“We ask Allah (SWT) to forgive him, have mercy upon him, grant him jannatul firdaws and grant us the fortitude to bear the passing.”
