Slavery may have been a century and a half ago, but what about what came afterwards? The Black Codes, the Jim Crow Era, Lynchings, Race Riots/Racial Terrorism, Segregation, the fight for Equal Rights, the fight for Voting Rights, the fight for Fair Housing, Mass Incarceration, the repeated killing of unarmed blacks by police, etc., etc., etc. Slavery ended and the country just rolled on with other means to exploit, oppress and distress the descendants of slaves.
We are told to get over it, but the aftershocks continue. Funny how people aren’t told to get over the Holocaust.
