Imam Khalid Griggs Named Executive Director ICNA Council for Social Justice

The Central Shura of the Islamic Circle of North America has named Imam Khalid Griggs as the new Executive Director of ICNA Council for Social Justice, ensuring the continuity of our mission. Dr. Zahid Bukhari, who served in that position for over a decade, has established ICNA CSJ as a pivotal partner in social justice and civic engagement initiatives affecting the national and international Muslim communities and Society.

Imam Khalid has previously served as Chairman of the Board of ICNA CSJ, Vice
President of Social Justice at ICNA, National Chairman of the Muslim Alliance for Black Lives (MABL), a division of ICNA CSJ, and Editor of Message International Magazine. For decades, he has been involved in civil rights, prison reform, and social justice advocacy movements, both nationally and internationally.

“Dr. Bukhari provided a roadmap for the future growth and development of ICNA CSJ. It is a testament to his vision and organizational skill-building qualities that ICNA CSJ has developed a national rapid response national team for social justice challenges affecting the health and well-being of the nation. I intend to honor and build upon this legacy while establishing ongoing quality programs that ameliorate systemic inequitable conditions that degrade the quality of life for far too many citizens/residents of this country,” says Imam Khalid. 

Imam Khalid has also served as the Editor-in-Chief here at OPOW for the past 10 years.  We here at OPOW are very proud of him in his Islamic work over the past 52 years.
