In November 2025, a mosque in Dearborn, Michigan, was the location of a

counter-protest by local Muslim residents against a small group of anti-Islam activists. EPIC MASJID was one of several community groups involved in the response. 

Details of the Protests

• Anti-Islam Protesters: A small group of right-wing activists, some affiliated with figures like Florida U.S. Senate candidate Jake Lang and former Michigan gubernatorial candidate Anthony Hudson, came to Dearborn to protest what they falsely claimed was the implementation of "Sharia Law" in the city. During the demonstration, Lang reportedly displayed a Quran, threatened to burn it with lighter fluid, and slapped it with bacon, which prompted strong reactions from counter-protesters.
• Community Response: Dearborn, a city with a large Arab and Muslim population, saw a large number of residents and various community groups, including EPIC MASJID, gathering to denounce the anti-Islam rhetoric and promote unity. The counter-protesters overwhelmed the small group of outside activists, shouting them down and physically intervening to stop actions like the attempted Quran burning.
• Outcome: The dueling demonstrations resulted in heated clashes, pushing, shoving, and screaming matches. Dearborn police were present and made three arrests for disorderly behavior, urging the community not to engage directly with such demonstrations to ensure safety.
• Official Statements: Local officials, including Mayor Abdullah Hammoud and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, later held a press conference at a mosque to call for unity, stating that the attempts to divide the community had failed. 

EPIC MASJID's Involvement

EPIC MASJID was mentioned as one of the groups representing the local community's stance against the anti-Islam activists. News reports show local Muslim activists and community members actively countering the hate speech with messages of peace and coexistence. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Michigan chapter executive director, Dawud Walid, stated the community would not be intimidated by "low-rent bigots"

The "Global Rally for Humanity" was the name of a series of

nationwide anti-Muslim protests that took place outside mosques across the United States on October 9th and 10th, 2015. The events were organized via social media campaigns, and attendees were encouraged to be armed in states with open-carry laws. 

Details of the Event

• Purpose: The event was organized by individuals who described themselves as "patriots" taking a stand against what they called "radical Islam". Organizers encouraged participants to protest at local mosques to "educate" people about Islam, often relying on inflammatory rhetoric and sometimes calling for the removal of the mosques' tax-exempt status.
• Concerns: The rallies sparked significant concern among Muslim communities and civil rights organizations, including the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Anti-Defamation League, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Department of Homeland Security, were engaged to help ensure the safety of mosques and their congregations.
• Response: In many locations, the number of counter-protesters and interfaith supporters significantly outnumbered the anti-Muslim demonstrators. Many mosques and Muslim organizations responded by organizing their own community events, such as health clinics, or by increasing security measures and holding interfaith solidarity events.
• Outcome: While there were isolated incidents and high tensions, the rallies generally failed to attract widespread support, and several planned protests were either canceled or had very low attendance. The event was widely condemned by a variety of religious and civil rights groups.
