This is my "Little Cousin", whose father was my hero.  We were the first and only from out family to go to Vietnam.  He was Army and I Marine.  He always was a step ahead of me.  Captain US Army.  He did an excellent job raising his children.  A pattern for me again in this journey of life.  Below is her story and she is my hero... ADL meaning Justice in the Arabic Language...

I’m a strong WOMAN! As the only surviving child of aging parents, I have worn many hats in the past several years. Caregiver/Advocate/Accountant/Ms. Fix-It/Landscaper. You name a role, I’ve probably played it. And now I’m having to learn to be a motherless child.

Yesterday I let someone hurt my feelings more than I should have. While I was doing necessary landscape work they quipped that “if I wanted someone to treat me like a woman, then I needed to act like a woman and do more feminine things…that I needed to let men do manly things”.

Here I am living my life and just doing what needs to get done. I haven’t had the time or luxury to live my “soft girl era”. I can’t always wear pastels and perfume or keep my nails perfectly manicured. Sometimes its sweats and gloves and the weed eater. I don’t always have a man around to lean on or to pump my gas or carry my heavy loads or “treat me like a woman” … whatever that means. Sometimes I have to do for self. Sometimes I have to do what others need me to do because they can no longer do it themselves. Sometimes I have to treat myself. My life may not be all hearts and flowers, but it’s the life I have in this moment.

What is the measure of a woman? We all have different roles to play. We each are as different and distinct as snowflakes. Much of what we do in life is born out of necessity and love. It’s part of the journey the Lord placed us on.

I am ME! I’m glad the Lord made me capable and able to stand up strait on this journey. Gives me strength to do whatever I need to do. I’m not single or somehow lacking simply because I’m not womanly enough or feminine enough by someone else’s standards. I’m not unworthy because of the different hats I wear or the way I show up in the world. I think about that Sojourner Truth poem “Aren’t I A Woman”. No matter what my journey in life looks to someone else…Aren’t I A Woman? I am NOT less of a woman because of my journey…Perhaps my journey makes me stronger . Perhaps God has made me to be JUST AS I AM to serve His purpose in the land.
