A MESSAGE FROM DEPUTY AMIR TALIB
|
 The Ailing Heart Of AmericaAmerica is ailing. And the worse symptoms are not the state of the economy or joblessness. The greatest threat to the health of America is the state of her political heart. At a time when America most needs to pull together, it seems that the political heart of America is suffering from critical blockages---blockages that could cause the nation to suffer permanent damage or death.
At a time when wrong or rash decisions could throw our economy back into a double-digit recession; our representatives have chosen party politics over the needs of the people.
With cold hearts and ears closed to the plight of the weakest among us...Congress is poised to allow across-the-board budget cuts that will drastically affect the well-being of those least able to withstand them: middle-class families, the working poor, children and the elderly.
As Muslims, we must follow the example of our Prophet Muhammad (saws). He was a champion of justice and equity. He defended the weakest of society. We must follow his example with mindfulness that we will stand before Allah (swt) to answer for our treatment of one another.
Our Prophet was known as an arbiter among men. He worked to bring hearts together. I encourage each of you to make an effort when and where you are able to reach across religious, party and racial lines to help heal the heart of America.
I also encourage each of you to reach out to your Congressman on both sides of the aisle and tell them you want them to work together to avert the upcoming economic downgrade of America. Ask them to open their hearts to do what is fair and just for all Americans. Ask them to stop playing politics at the expense of the middle-class and working poor.
