Dear Mr. Mahmud,  I visited the Al Farooq Masjid last week with the group from First Presbyterian Church (I'm the guy with boots that you thought might be younger than you).  I very much enjoyed your presentation and would like to learn more.

 

I had to smile when you gave the example that it would make no sense to ask a Jew who did not speak English to teach someone about the Presbyterian Church, because I am doing something very similar.  I am enrolled in a Masters of Theology program and am currently taking a course on Islam at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur.  I notice on your website that classes on Islam are offered to the public, and that may be something I should do next.  I do not feel knowledgable about Islam, but based on what I hear people around me say, I do believe I am past the beginner level.  The intermediate class referred to on the website may be what I need, but I might prefer the opportunity to take a knowledgable person such as yourself to lunch to chat.  I assure you that my goal is information, not proselytization.  If you are willing, I would love to take you to eat at the place of your choice, but I would also take your advice as to whether I should take the class at the mosque first.

 

A more pressing matter for me, at least, is that one of the requirements of the course I am taking at Columbia is to visit a mosque during Friday prayers.  I do not have any idea about the etiquette for this, and would appreciate your help, since the Al Farooq Masjid would be the most convenient for me to visit.
