Asma Hanif: الله يشفي لها بالكامل

I sent this message out on yesterday to a few, however, the response was less than optimal and so I am now resending it to a wider audience. Please do forward and circulate. I apologize for any duplications.

Sunday evening, Sister Asma, fainted at the shelter. Her son was called and she was rushed to the Emergency Room. She was diagnosed with Exhaustion, Dehydration, Syncope & Vertigo.

Contemplating the numerous appeals this sister has made for help and assistance, we must ask ourselves have we, are any of us - and I include myself, doing enough in support of the work this sister is doing on behalf of those in need which we all can and must share. And despite not receiving sufficient donations or the necessary help, this sister took on even more responsibility by accepting the continued requests from human rights organizations to house refugee muslim women and children; and orphans.

I am but a mere volunteer, attempting to help by circulating and forwarding emails as my own physical condition does not permit me to do much more. I encourage others to do the same.

This sister has been consistently doing this work for over 30 years, under the same circumstances, the same conditions. Meanwhile, other younger organizations thrive and have full time staff because they are given the financial support to do so. And although this may be an unpopular statement, those of us from other countries must ask ourselves why is it that organizations (and masjids) headed by African Americans are not given the same financial support by those here in America from other countries while yet bestowing a preponderance of support for our native 'countries' here and back home?

As we have celebrated and honored the life and work of Dr Martin Luther King and Muhammad Ali, let us not forget that it was the African American communities which fought and forged the way for those of us who now benefit from their struggle. Sister Asma Hanif was one among those many.

She can not continue to do the work of 9 people without incurring some form of adverse effect. Perhaps it is because she was forced to try that it was her health which has suffered.

Join me in making dua for this icon along with donating and forwarding this email such that Inshallah she can get the rest the doctors instructed her to take and at the same time she won't worry that those whom she has brought from homelessness to 'home' won't be neglected in the process. Everyone can donate according to their means. Many muslims in America are quite wealthy.

Muslimat Al-Nisaa Shelter/Inge Benevolent Ministries houses those homeless women and children, as a result of discrimination, personal tragedy, domestic violence, as well as refugees. We provide a faith-based shelter to women who desire a return or the achieving of self-sufficiency. Without access to housing, women are often forced to live in substandard conditions or in shelters operated by those unable to provide a culturally and religiously sensitive environment or services. Some may need only short-term shelter. Others face numerous barriers to achieving independence, requiring not only a variety of support services but also longer residential housing.
We also provide health care for our homeless, and to the physically disabled in order to participate in their Special Olympics as well as food, clothing and toiletries to any family in need.
