Meet Amanda Gorman’s - twin. The other half of the mighty duo - Genius Twins
GABRIELLE GORMAN
Gabrielle Gorman is a 2020 graduate of UCLA's School of Film and Television. She combines her love of digital storytelling, entrepreneurship, and social good to promote positive change. In the summer of 2019, Gorman interned in the digital marketing at the shoe company TOMS; that same year, she directed a short documentary called “Mr Ewing,” Amazon Fire TV about a 99-year-old black teacher and WWII veteran.
She believes strongly in the interconnectedness of creativity and innovation, and had the opportunity to discuss this for a national 2018 Linkedln campaign called which spotlighted entrepreneurs and artists.
In the fall of 2018, she was a content development intern at Scooter Braun Projects, a diversified entertainment and media company with work inclusive of Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, and Karlie Kloss. That same year, she interned for the Interim Executive Director at Ava Duvernay's Array, Regina Miller. In January of 2018, she attended Sundance Film Festival as a YoungArts x Sundance Ignite fellow. In the summer of 2017, she interned at Complex, an award-winning digital media company, where she had the opportunity to work with notable artists like Lana Del Rey and The Game. In the summer of 2016, she was selected to be an official Shondaland Shadowee where she was mentored by director, Jann Turner, on the sets of “Scandal” and “How To Get Away with Murder.” In the same year, she was named one of seven top filmmakers in the country by the National YoungArts Foundation and became one of sixty artists in the nation nominated to be a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, the highest honor awarded to American artistic youth.
She has discussed her films in publications like Essence, Bustle, MILK, and on the radio for NPR. Gorman’s short films have garnered competitive awards and she has collaborated with non-profits like TEDx and the California Arts Council. In 2016, Academy Award winning screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, presented Gorman with the Aaron Sorkin Writing Award at the WestFlix Film Festival. In 2017, her short film, Dear America, about what it means to be a Black woman in present day America, was even featured in a PBS special, Immense Possibilities.

Opinion | I'm a Black doctor who didn't trust the Covid vaccine. Here's what changed my mind.

Ten years ago, my father-in-law fell 13 feet from the top of his tractor-trailer. Only after completing his delivery, driving 35 miles home and showering, did he finally go to the emergency department. Although he had five broken ribs and a lung contusion, he was discharged. He returned to the doctor with difficulty breathing, but it would take several visits (during which symptoms were dismissed and test results misinterpreted) to diagnose fluid around his lungs and heart. He required surgery and suffered a post-operative cardiac arrest. His survival is a miracle.
