The Catholic Church

The Church recognizes that homosexuality is an innate condition in most cases, not a choice, and therefore cannot be considered a sin.

Homosexual sexual activity, however, is seen as a "moral disorder" and "homosexual acts" as "contrary to the natural law".

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

2396 Among the sins gravely contrary to chastity are masturbation, fornication, pornography, and homosexual practices.

Jehovah's Witnesses[edit]

Jehovah's Witnesses consider same-sex sexual activity to be sinful, but recognize that some people may be prone to homosexuality, including members of their congregation. Members are required to abstain from any homosexual behavior, which is listed as a serious sin, but are told not to hate homosexual individuals.("Homosexuality—How Can I Avoid It?". Awake!: 28–30. July 7, 2007).

Qur’an Position on Homosexuality

  1. 7:80-- And (remember) Lot, when he said to his people: "Do you do the nasty act that no one in the world before you has done?
  2. 7:81--"Verily, you practice your lusts on men instead of women. Nay, but you are a people transgressing beyond bounds (by committing great sins)."
  3. 7:82— And the answer of his people was only that they said: "Drive them out of your town, these are indeed men who want to be pure (from sins)!"
  4. 7:83-- Then We saved him and his family, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind (in the torment).
  5. 7:84-- And We rained down on them a rain (of stones). Then see what was the end of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners, etc.).
  6. 11:77-- And when Our Messengers came to Lout (Lot), he was grieved on their account and felt himself straitened for them (lest the town people should approach them to commit sodomy with them). He said: "This is a distressful day."
  7. 11:78-- And his people came rushing towards him, and since aforetime they used to commit crimes (sodomy, etc.), he said: "O my people! Here are my daughters (i.e. the daughters of my nation), they are purer for you (if you marry them lawfully). So fear Allah and degrade me not as regards my guests! Is there not among you a single right-minded man?"
  8. 11:79--They said: "Surely you know that we have neither any desire nor in need of your daughters, and indeed you know well what we want!"
  9. 11:80-- He said: "Would that I had strength (men) to overpower you, or that I could betake myself to some powerful support (to resist you)."
  10. 11:81— They (Messengers) said: "O Lout (Lot)! Verily, we are the Messengers from your Lord! They shall not reach you! So travel with your family in a part of the night, and let not any of you look back, but your wife (will remain behind), verily, the punishment which will afflict them, will afflict her. Indeed, morning is their appointed time. Is not the morning near?"
  11. 11:82— So when Our Commandment came, We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down, and rained on them stones of baked clay, piled up;
  12. 11:83— Marked from your Lord, and they are not ever far from the Zalimun (polytheists, evil-doers, etc.).
  13. 15:57—[Ibrahim (Abraham) again] said: "What then is the business on which you have come, O Messengers?"
  14. 15:58— They (the angels) said: "We have been sent to a people who are Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners).
  15. 15:59—"(All) except the family of Lout (Lot). Them all we are surely going to save (from destruction).
  16. 15:60—"Except his wife, of whom We have decreed that she shall be of those who remain behind (i.e. she will be destroyed)."
  17. 15:61— Then, when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lout (Lot).
  18. 15:62— He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me."
  19. 15:63— They said: "Nay, we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting.
  20. 15:64—"And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth.
  21. 15:65—"Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered."
  22. 15:66— And We made known this decree to him, that the root of those (sinners) was to be cut off in the early morning.
  23. 15:67— And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival).
  24. 15:68—[Lout (Lot)] said: "Verily! these are my guests, so shame me not.
  25. 15:69—"And fear Allah and disgrace me not."
  26. 15:70— They (people of the city) said: "Did we not forbid you to entertain (or protect) any of the 'Alamin (people, foreigners, strangers, etc. from us)?"
  27. 15:71—[Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)."
  28. 15:72— Verily, by your life (O Muhammad SAW), in their wild intoxication, they were wandering blindly.
  29. 15:73— So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise;
  30. 15:74— And We turned (the towns of Sodom in Palestine) upside down and rained down on them stones of baked clay.
  31. 15:75-- Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah).
  32. 21:71-- And We rescued him and Lout (Lot) to the land which We have blessed for the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns).
  33. 21:72-- And We bestowed upon him Ishaque (Isaac), and (a grandson) Ya'qub (Jacob). Each one We made righteous.
  34. 21:73-- And We made them leaders, guiding (mankind) by Our Command, and We inspired in them the doing of good deeds, performing Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and the giving of Zakat and of Us (Alone) they were worshippers.
  35. 21:74-- And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah).
  36. 21:75-- And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous.
  37. 26:160-- The people of Lout (Lot) (those dwelt in the towns of Sodom in Palestine) belied the Messengers.
  38. 26:161-- When their brother Lout (Lot) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him?
  39. 26:162--"Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you.
  40. 26:163--"So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me.
  41. 26:164--"No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message of Islamic Monotheism), my reward is only from the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists).
  42. 26:165--"Go you in unto the males of the 'Alamin (mankind),
