ظلم (لسان العرب)

Oppression is putting someone or something in other than where he/she belongs.  Oppression is not giving a person all that he/she is due. 

الظلم : وضع الشيء في غير موضعه .

انتقاص الحق.

They did not wrong him means they did not turn from him.

The source of oppression is injustice.

Whoever does more or less than required, is doing evil and oppressing.

It includes exceeding the boundaries.

فلم يَظْلِمُوه أي لم يَعْدِلوا عنه

وأصل الظلم الجور

فمن زاد أو نَقَصَ فقد أساء وظَلَمَ

ومجاوزة الحد

Whoever does more or less than required, is doing evil and oppressing.

It means that he is violating etiquette by abandoning the sunnah.

He oppresses himself when he doesn’t do enough to obtain all the blessings connected to an activity.

فمن زاد أو نَقَصَ فقد أساء وظَلَمَ

أي أَساءَ الأدبَ بتَرْكِه السُّنَّةَ

وظَلمَ نفْسه بما نَقَصَها من الثواب بتَرْدادِ المَرّات في الوُضوء.

The greatest oppression is shirk.

The source of this, all of it, is exceeding the boundary, the quantity, and what is right and true.

 (31:13)قولَ الله عز وجل: إن الشِّرْك لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيم.

وأَصل هذا كله مُجاوَزة الحدّ والقَدْر والحَقّ.
