Dear Brothers and Sisters:

 

Happy 2020 to you!  We hope you have been enjoying a smooth start to this new year.

 

We want to introduce you more intimately to some of our wonderful staff in Congo.  This dedicated team of people works very hard, day in and day out - through times of instability, power outages, and many other types of uncertainty - to bring resources and knowledge to the women of South Kivu province.

The men and women in this photo (among others not pictured) are doing the heavy lifting: providing trainings to increase women's access to life-changing opportunities; mentoring young women without the means to complete their education; providing literacy training to unwed teenage mothers, and more.

MEET MASOKA
“I love to change Africa through young women, because it is them who will be the mothers of the nations of the world.”

 

Masoka, a former Girl Ambassador for Peace, is in charge of our "Keep Girls in School" program and manages the Hero Women Media Center. 

 

This week, Masoka is in Uganda, receiving training with Street Business School, and will soon begin offering an entrepreneurial training program for our members in Bukavu.

Masoka received her Baccalaureate degree in Financial and Accounting Management in 2015. In preparation for taking over the Keep Girls in School program, she completed a Micro Enterprise course at the Days for Girls University in Uganda.

Masoka grew up in the remote area of our Itombwe Center. 

 

She is happy to be able to work in the area of her home village, to change the paradigm for women and girls there.

"Women here are devalued and marginalized. Discounted.  I want the world to know our situation.  I love this work because we advocate for women and teach them to demand their rights.  It gives me great satisfaction to work towards equality between men and women.  I want to see Congolese women, and all women all over the world, have equality."

These hard-working people are able to make a difference in the lives of women in eastern Congo thanks to your generous support.  Thank you so much for your ongoing solidarity.
