Five arrested for attempting to blow up Ohio bridge...Are They Terrorist....I Think So!!!

CLEVELAND -- Federal prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against five self-proclaimed anarchists for conspiring to use

explosives to destroy a bridge near Cleveland.

According to authorities, the public was never in danger because the explosive devices were inoperable and also under the control of an undercover FBI employee. The men were also closely monitored by law enforcement.

Several of the suspects were active in the "Occupy Wall Street" offshoot "Occupy Cleveland," with three listing the group as their employer on their Facebook profiles and one serving as its Cleveland-area spokesman, according to a March article in The Cleveland Plain Dealer.

A law enforcement official told The Wall Street Journal that several of the suspects expressed frustration that the "Occupy Wall Street" movement was too hesitant to use violence.

"Occupy Cleveland" canceled a schedule May Day protest Monday due to the arrests and issued a statement distancing themselves from the five anarchists.

"While the group arrested Monday evening by the FBI were associated with Occupy Cleveland they were in no way representing or acting on behalf of Occupy Cleveland or the event that was planned for later today at the GE Lighting building," "Occupy Cleveland" said in a statement on Facebook. "Occupy Cleveland has had affirmed principles of non-violence since its inception on October 6, 2011."

The five charged Tuesday are not believed to be associated with any foreign terrorist groups.

Authorities became aware of their plot when the group was infiltrated by a paid informant.

A criminal complaint alleges Douglas Wright, Brandon Baxter and Anthony Hayne -- aged 26, 20 and 35, respectively -- formed a small anarchist group and considered a series of evolving plots over several months. The trio was later joined by Connor Stevens, 20, and Joshua Stafford, 23.

All five were arrested Monday evening by members of the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce.

According to authorities, the group's initial plan was to use smoke grenades to distract law enforcement officials so they could knock over financial institution signs perched on high-rise buildings in downtown Cleveland.

They eventually settled on a plot to destroy a bridge that connects Brecksville, Ohio, to Sagamore Hills, Ohio, over the Cuyahoga Valley National Park south of Cleveland, authorities allege.

The group then purchased what they thought were plastic explosives from an undercover agent. The anarchists then placed the inert explosives on the bridge and attempted to detonate them.

When no explosion occurred, the group left and were soon after arrested.

All five appeared before a federal magistrate Tuesday and their next court date has been set for May 7 at 11:00am local time, WEWS-TV reported.
