Muslims Celebrate Eidul Fitr Marking The End Of Ramadan With Communal Prayer on May 2, 2022.
Several local Atlanta area masjids(mosques) celebrated The ending of the fasting month of Ramadan by a communal prayer. During the month of Ramadan Muslims fast from Dawn until sunset abstaining from food drink. The month which consists of 29 or 30 days based on the lunar cycle of the moon is in honor of the Qur’an(The Muslim Scripture) being revealed to the Prophet Muhammad Ibn Abdullah(Peace Be Upon Him) over 1400 years ago.
Once the first crescent is sighted signifying the beginning of a new month or Shawwal the 10th month on the Islamic calendar 1.5 billion Muslims around the world honor the end of the fast by engaging in a communal prayer. This year the prayer will be held in West End Park 1111 Oak St., Atlanta, GA.at 9 AM.
Muslims throughout the metropolitan area converged on the park to pray, socialize, and reconnect with one another. This has been the first Communal prayer since the beginning of the pandemic. An estimated 3500 Muslims converged on West End Park for the celebration.
