 Egypt Planning Minister Rejects IMF And World Bank

 loans as "incompatible with national interest"

Egyptian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Fayza Aboul Naga has been quoted by Egyptian papers as saying that Egypt will not be accepting any conditional loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the World Bank.

Although no details were given concerning rejecting the World Bank loan, Aboul Naga mentioned that Egypt had found the conditional loan to be incompatible with the country’s best interests. According to the Wall Street Journal, Aboul Naga had complained to the US Embassy in Egypt concerning the violation of Egypt’s sovereignty by dictating conditions.

It is reported that Aboul Naga had objected to the loan without consulting with other officials; Abdel Fattah el Gabaly, the Finance Minister’s advisor mentioned he knew nothing about a loan being rejected.

نقلت الصحف المصرية عن وزيرة التخطيط والتعاون الدولي المصرية فايزة أبو النجا قولها أن مصر لن تقبل أي قروض مشروطة من صندوق النقد الدولي (آي ام إف ) أو البنك الدولي.


وعلى الرغم من عدم إعطاء أي تفاصيل عن رفض قرض البنك الدولي, فقد ذكرت أبو النجا أن مصر وجدت بأن القرض المشروط لن يتوافق مع مصلحة البلاد. ووفقا لصحيفة وول ستريت جورنال, فإن أبو النجا اشتكت إلى السفارة الأميركية في مصر بشأن انتهاك السيادة المصرية من خلال إملاء الشروط.

هذا ويذكر أن أبو النجا قد اعترضت على القرض دون التشاور مع المسئولين الآخرين; حيث ذكر عبد الفتاح الجبلي, مستشار وزير المالية أنه لا يعرف شيئا عن القرض الذي رفض.
