Death of Faye Bellamy Powell [founding member of SNCC ]

Assalaamu Alaikum       (Greetings of Peace):

Faye Bellamy Powell died in Georgia, on January       6, of pancreatic cancer. Faye was a friend and colleague of Imam       Jamil (the former H. Rap Brown) and Sr. Karima       Al-Amin during the human rights struggle in America in the       turbulent 60s.

She was also one       of three panelists featured in the special program that we did on       "The Life and Legacy of Imam Jamil Abdullah       Al-Amin" at Georgia State University a little       over a year ago.

The video of Faye (one of the       founding members of the Student       Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, aka SNCC), Sr. Karima,       and Professor Akinyele Umoja, sharing insights on that rich historical       legacy is still available.

May ALLAH give patience       to the family of Faye Bellamy-Powell, and have mercy on the soul of       the human rights warrior who has now passed on.
